Divorce Coach Jill cannot guarantee that other attendees will maintain confidentiality.
Your Relationship with Divorce Coach Jill
Although you will not be receiving therapy or other services requiring a license, licensed mental health professionals must still abide by certain ethical rules, which include avoiding “dual” relationships. Divorce Coach Jill cannot interact with you outside the group, such as in a social, business, legal, financial, medical, sexual, or romantic way.
Limits on Confidentiality.
The law protects the privacy of all communications between a client and licensed mental health professional. In most cases, information may only be released with your consent. However, there are some exceptions where Divorce Coach Jill may be permitted to disclose information without your consent. These include:
(a) There is reasonable cause to believe (reasonable suspicion or evidence) based on your communications that a child under the age of eighteen is suffering physical or emotional injury for abuse which causes harm or substantial risk of harm to the child’s health or welfare, or from neglect.
(b) If a client reports he or she was psychically or sexually abused as a child or engaged in sexual acts with an adult as a child, and the reported perpetrator currently has access to children.
(c) If there is reason to believe an elderly or handicapped person is suffering from abuse or mistreatment.
(d) If a client communicates an immediate threat (with clear intention to harm or plan to harm) of physical harm to an identifiable victim, Divorce Coach Jill may be required to take protective action such as notifying the potential victim, the police, or seeking hospitalization for the client.
(e) If a client threatens to harm himself (such as communicating an intent or plan for suicide).
(f) If a client files a lawsuit against Divorce Coach Jill.
Other Services.
Requests, especially those pertaining to a legal matter (such as letters, advocating for special services related to a psychological condition, or forensic matters), will be referred to an appropriate professional with expertise in these matters.
